As a result of his early warning about the flames in Los Angeles, meteorologist and climate scientist Edgar McGregor, who has since been referred to as a “hero,” has been able to save the lives of hundreds of people.
On January 7, McGregor wrote a message on the Facebook page Altadena Weather and Climate, advising people not to go to sleep but rather to pick up their belongings and leave the area immediately.
It is believed that his essay has been seen by a number of individuals who have actually taken his recommendations into consideration.
Now, this meteorologist discusses the warning sign that he observed prior to the flames in Los Angeles that broke out and destroyed hundreds of homes, businesses, and significant monuments.
“When this windstorm hit, I knew on December 30 that the conditions would be carbon copies of the conditions that were on the ground in Lahaina, Hawaii, and in Paradise, which both were completely levelled and lost approximately one hundred people each,” the McGregot said with People. “I knew that the conditions would be identical to the conditions that were on the ground in both of those places.”
In the event that a wildfire breaks out, I warned them that there will be one thousand homes destroyed by the flames. A catastrophe would result from this.
“I was aware that the warning might have been a little bit excessive; however, as it turns out, a thousand homes are not even a fraction of the loss, the ones that were lost,” the speaker said.
Considering that his tweet has garnered a great deal of attention, the meteorologist has been providing updates on what he believes may occur in the future in relation to the raging flames in Los Angeles, which have resulted in the deaths of twenty-four individuals.
To a large extent, he is of the opinion that the “immediate threat have been eliminated.” If, on the other hand, there is no precipitation in the near future, Hollywood and Santa Barbara may “face disaster” within the next few weeks.
It is possible that Hollywood will be the next place to experience a catastrophe if we get another strong windstorm over the next few of weeks. It is Santa Barbara. Any one of these communities in the foothills. Additionally, when it rains, we have to navigate through the mudslides that have formed.
That is not yet the end of this.
“I knew this was going to happen,” McGregor continued. I certainly did not believe that January would be the month in which it would take place, but I do hope that I was successful in doing my job of warning everyone.
On January 7, the Palisade fire, which went on to cause widespread destruction, was the first fire to break out. The emergency call that was made to citizens of Los Angeles to make ready for “a potential evacuation” was initiated as a result of this.
In the Altadena neighbourhood of Los Angeles, the Eaton Fire broke out a few hours later. Even worse, further fires broke out.
On January 10, the state of California sent inmates, both male and female, to assist in the fight against the fires it was experiencing. This is one of fourteen states that employs inmates to assist in the fight against fires. They are not compelled to take part, but rather have determined to do so of their own free will.
Inmates who are currently serving time for sexual crimes or arson are not eligible to volunteer.
According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, wildfires have been responsible for the destruction of more than 40,000 flat acres.
