Considered one of Canada’s most famous singers, the Hollywood actress first rose to fame with her trip-hop-influenced debut album, “Whoa, Nelly!” (2000).

The album was a critical and commercial success, with two of its tracks, “I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light,” reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The success of “I’m Like a Bird” even earned her the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

But a series of difficult circumstances followed her accomplishment. In a recent interview, the composer talked about her early experiences in the music industry and the challenges she faced.

She listed extensive airbrushing as one of her favorite recollections of that era. The well-known individual candidly said, “I have olive skin, and they would kind of lighten my skin in photos, and kind of take my hips down all the time — they would always cut off in editorials.”

The incident served as the inspiration for the song “Powerless,” which appears on her 2003 sophomore album “Folklore.” Using lines like “Paint my face in your magazines / Make it look whiter than it seems / Paint me over with your dreams / Shove away my ethnicity,” the singer discusses the modifications done to her appearance in the song.

“I guess I was kind of angry about my second album,” admitted the Portuguese performer, who recently released her seventh album, “7.”

Despite the challenges she faced, she is thankful for her early success and considers herself fortunate to have escaped the worst parts of the entertainment business that several of her peers went through.

The singer credits her strong, matriarchal family and the unwavering support of her team for her sense of assertiveness and guidance, which allowed her to navigate the music industry successfully.

At one point, Nelly Furtado stepped away from the spotlight to focus on raising her children. Nevis Gahunia, age 21, is one of her three children at the moment, along with a son and two daughters.

After giving birth to her two younger children, Furtado discovered she had attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) just 14 months later.

After recognizing the signs while caring for her five-year-old son and her now six-year-old daughter, she received an official diagnosis. Furtado has two younger children, whose names are kept a secret, with her ex-boyfriend, rapper Jerry (Gerard Damien Long).

The mother of three has battled ADHD all of her life. However, the “chaos” of raising two young children who were close in age ultimately led to her diagnosis.

The woman said, “I was like, ‘Boing, boing, boing, boing,’ when I was in college.” I’ve had it with me forever. However, I became vividly aware of my ADHD when my two youngest children were nearby.

Since receiving her diagnosis, Furtado has become more conscious and often reflects on how to remain calm in the midst of daily distractions. Exercise, especially dancing, has been a major part of her routine. She finds that going to the dance studio improves her ability to concentrate and control her ADHD.

With the release of her first album in seven years, the dedicated mother is once again in the public eye. Her recent live performances have sparked discussions on her appearance; some have focused on her health, while others have commended her beauty.

One person praised the music diva on Facebook, writing, “What a beautiful woman.” “After having children, she actually looks much better than she did in 2006 [sic], with a thicker, more voluptuous body,” someone another remarked. I love it; it’s perfect.

Meanwhile, someone said, “Well, she put on a little weight,” in defense of Furtado’s physical characteristics. All right, so what? Her look is still breathtaking. People’s obsession with weight is ridiculous. Another added, “She looks better with the curves.” More users of X (formerly Twitter) compared Furtado’s appearance to earlier times.

An X user wrote, “Nelly Furtado is so [expletive] thick.” Another person said, “She was thin when she was younger.”But not just yet. Another person said, “She was slender in her younger days.”

Nelly Furtado’s return to the public eye has spurred discussions about her look and songs, highlighting the complicated nature of celebrity. Despite the chaos, she stays focused on her journey, inspiring others with her resilience and creative growth.
