Though her nine-decade career encompasses much more, June Lockhart is most known for her legendary TV mum performances. From 1958 until 1964, she portrayed Ruth Martin, Lassie’s friend and Timmy’s mother (Jon Provost), in the television series “Lassie.”

 

She portrayed the matriarch of the family, Dr. Maureen Robinson, on “Lost in Space” from 1965 to 1968. In addition to her work on numerous other projects, Lockhart is a mother and a grandma.

 

Long-Term Career in Television

 

Lockhart starred in television shows such as “Bewitched,” “Petticoat Junction,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “Step by Step,” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” in addition to “Lassie” and “Lost in Space.”

 

Additionally, she made appearances in about 40 “General Hospital” episodes. Her more recent credits include a “Grey’s Anatomy” episode from 2006, the TV movie “Holiday in Handcuffs” from 2006, and the movie “The Remake” from 2016.

Private Life and Customs of the Family

 

Lockhart is a twice married woman. Between 1951 until 1959, she wed John F. Maloney, with whom she had two children: actress Anne Lockhart and June Elizabeth. In 1959, she wed John Lindsay, and the two parted ways in 1970.

 

Lockhart spoke warmly about her first film, 1938’s “A Christmas Carol,” in which she costarred with her acting parents, Gene and Kathleen Lockhart, in a 2014 interview with the Fayette Tribune.

 

Lockhart enjoys watching the film with her daughter Junie and granddaughter Christianna, since it has become a family ritual. Her opening phrase from the movie, “I know, I know—sausages!” makes the family laugh and has since become a treasured family joke.

In 2015, Lockhart shared her outlook on life in an interview with The Daily Item. Over the years, a lot of opportunities have just fallen into my lap, and I’m delighted I was able to take advantage of them, the woman added. “Gosh, I used to think that 90 was old. However, I feel 55. I’m really lucky to be employed and engaged in life.
