Jennifer Grey’s career was derailed by a tragic twist of fate.
Following the 1987 release of the beloved movie Dirty Dancing, fans anticipated the gifted actress Jennifer Grey—who won over hearts as “Baby”—to reach even greater heights. Rather, a life-threatening vehicle accident and the ensuing guilt of survivorship brought forth a protracted battle with identity and renown.
Grey, who was raised in a family in show business, started dancing at an early age and, after several years of tiny roles and commercial work, got her big break in Dirty Dancing. However, Grey’s life was irrevocably altered just as the movie was beginning to gain popularity.
A woman and her kid were killed in a horrible vehicle accident as she was driving in Ireland with her then-boyfriend Matthew Broderick. Grey sustained severe emotional anguish in addition to minor physical wounds. She was unable to enjoy the success of her picture because the accident happened just a few days before its premiere.
The pain and remorse that Grey’s survivor felt caused her to take a years-long break from the public eye, during which she had a nose operation that significantly changed the way she looked. Later on, she described it as “the worst nose job ever,” claiming she felt invisible as a result.
Grey’s career was resurrected when she won Dancing with the Stars in 2010, following a brief stint back in the spotlight in the early 2000s. Since then, she has acted in a number of movies and television series, such as Untogether and Red Oaks.
Grey’s tale is a moving reminder of the fleeting nature of celebrity and the strength of perseverance. Jennifer, welcome back! We are so happy to see you sparkling again!
