“Disney Faces Backlash Over Snow White Scene Promoting ‘Non-Consensual Kissing'”

People are requesting Disney to update the storyline of Snow White so that it is more relevant to the present era.
Numerous people consider Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to be a classic from their childhood. It was Disney’s first full-length animated feature, and it was released in 1937.

The film, which is based on the German fairytale written by the Brothers Grimm, tells the story of a princess who, after being banished by her cruel stepmother, goes on to form friendships with seven dwarfs.

Some viewers in the present day want it to be updated, despite the fact that it has been deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

One individual tweeted, “As a child, I never knew how dark and sinister some scenes were.” This is just one example of how several Disney films that were once enjoyed by a large number of people are now being viewed in a much more negative light.

Another user on X (which was once known as Twitter) tweets, “Have you ever gone back and watched some of the Disney animated movies that were released when we were children and observed how damn dark they were and how they were not really intended for children?”

One sequence in particular from the film Snow White has been the subject of a heated discussion as of late.

Over the course of the film’s conclusion, there is a well-known scene in which the prince, who is devastated by Snow White’s seeming death, gives her a passionate kiss.

A number of viewers are of the opinion that this sequence is troublesome and out of date.

After making an appearance on the daytime television program Good Morning Britain in the United Kingdom, journalist and broadcaster Nichi Hodgson argued that it conveys a message that is unclear with regard to permission.

She brought up the fact that Disney embellished the Brothers Grimm narrative by including a kiss scene that was not there in the original.

“There is a moral obligation for Disney. It is possible for them to run an ethical business if they so choose. Year after year, they bring in billions of dollars from their blockbusters. According to Hodgson, children begin watching their films at a very young age, and these films are among the first stories that kids have the opportunity to learn.

The actress Kristen Bell told Parents magazine that she had a serious chat with her children about the kissing scene. This is just one example of how celebrities have come out to express their opinions on the matter.

The actors from Frozen made the following statement: “Do you not find it strange that the prince embraces Snow White without first obtaining her permission? mostly due to the fact that you cannot kiss someone while they are sleeping!

As an example, one user wrote, “I think it’s great we’re opening up the conversation about consent, but people blaming Disney – a romantic kiss at the end of a movie isn’t the reason teenagers become confused about consent.” However, not everyone is in agreement that the original story should be corrected.

Another person adds, “It’s a fairytale, Disney should just leave it alone.”

“Snow White would readily give her consent to be kissed because not kissing her would condemn her to eternal sleep,” another person argues. “I would argue that Snow White would readily give her consent to be kissed.”

“I can’t believe they’re saying Snow White is wrong now!” writes a fourth individual who is in agreement with the statement. It is the kiss of life, so why not look at it that way?

As a result of the transformation that was made to the Snow White Enchanted Wish ride at Disneyland in California, the heated argument was picked up again.

In a review for SFGATE, Julie Tremaine and Katie Dowd stated that the fact that the prince kisses Snow White at the end of the film is the “biggest problem” with the film.

We have already reached a consensus that consent is a significant problem in the early Disney films, haven’t we? the questions for the review

Is it acceptable to teach children that kissing is not acceptable when it has not been determined whether or not both individuals are willing to partake in the activity?

Despite the fact that the kissing sequence in the original film has not been altered, it has been suggested that the Snow White remake, which is scheduled to be released in 2025, will take a different approach.

The actress Rachel Zegler, who will portray the major role, gained widespread attention in the past after she shared her thoughts on the original.

The actress stated that she thought Snow White’s connection with the prince was “weird” and that “this time” there won’t be a significant focus on the two of them. This statement was made in a conversation with Extra TV.

Her joke was that the parts involving the prince may even be “cut,” and she continued by saying, “It’s Hollywood, baby.”
