You won’t believe how Karma healed her. ENTITLED NEIGHBOR DEMANDED MY FENCE DOWN.
I Had to Take Down My Old Fence Because My Entitled Neighbor Forced Me To, and It’s Unbelievable How Karma Got Her Back
I lived in a quiet community and had to verbally bargain with neighbors to get permission to erect a fence. I was unaware that the move of the neighbors would result in such a drastic alteration in the situation. They left me with a troubled spitfire of a woman who exuded karma!
I had always been comfortable in my little Maple Street home. I had a sanctuary in my lawn where I could unwind after a long day. After relocating here, I quickly decided to build a fence along the back to give me some much-needed privacy.
To avoid paying a surveyor, I talked about the situation with my neighbors at the time, Jim and Susan. They were pleasant and easygoing, and together we chose a spot for the fence. We could all utilize it even if it wasn’t exactly on the property boundary.
I shook hands, then got to work. That fence was my pride and joy. I purchased all the materials and spent several weekends building it. My neighbors were happy with the arrangement because they were not obligated to contribute anything.
Everything went smoothly. But a little over a year ago, my dear neighbors sold their house. Arriving is Kayla, a sophisticated city dweller who is new. Before they left, Jim told me that Kayla was a realtor. In twelve years, she had successfully flipped eight homes!
She was unlike the rest of us locals; she always wore formal skirts, blouses, and heels, and she had a contemptuous glare. The new neighbor would always gloat about how much she loved her new home and how she planned to live there indefinitely.
But approximately six months after she moved in, I noticed a man walking about my property and the neighborhood with a clipboard. He appeared to be a property surveyor since he was taking measurements and placing tiny flags in the ground.
The next day, Kayla showed up at my door and changed my life forever. She came with a pile of paperwork and a determined look on her face. “Hello, Kayla here. Please give me a moment. Pulling out her business card, she introduced herself.
Okay, what’s going on? I replied, inquiring about the papers she was holding.
“I had a survey done, and it turns out your fence is nine inches onto my property,” she said, holding up the documents. “You have to either move it or reimburse me for the land it’s on,”
It caught me off guard. I affirmed, “I built that fence in accordance with an agreement with the previous owners.” “We all agreed right away, but we never received a survey.”
Kayla shook her head, clearly unimpressed. She insisted, “That might be how things work out here, but we follow the rules where I’m from.” “You either have to move the fence or pay me back for the intruder.”
The object also has an antiquated, unsightly appearance. You won’t move it or take it down, so if I have to take action, you’ll regret it.
I was shocked by her attitude and attempted to reason with her by reminding her about the handshake agreement I had made with Jim and Susan. But she would not budge. Rather, I realized there was nothing more I could do when she threatened to sue me.
I made the decision to remove the fence the next day to avoid any conflicts because I didn’t have any proof of the agreement I had made with my previous neighbors. With a heavy heart, I pulled up the supports, unscrewed the panels, and set them by the garage.
Even though it was a tough pill to chew and the effort was tiresome, I didn’t want to find myself in legal hot water. What came next was beyond what I could have imagined.
Approximately one week later, Kayla came back to my door, and she was crying this time! “What have you done?!” she exclaimed, her voice trembling.
Confused, I asked, “What do you mean?”
Kindly return the old fence. When will it be able to be rebuilt? She added, “I’ll even pay you whatever amount of money for the fence because I need it back.”
“I took it that you wanted it taken out,” I replied.
Yes, but my dog’s name is Duke. “He’s a German Shepherd mix, and I can’t leave him outside without a fence,” the woman revealed. “He’ll run away, or worse, he might get hit by a car. He devours everything in the house as well.
Even though I felt a little sorry for her, I couldn’t help but remember how obstinate she had been over the fence. I’m sorry, Kayla, but I’m not going to rebuild it. The easiest method for me to ensure that there are no additional issues is to keep the fence away from your property.
It seemed like my neighbor was in a dire predicament. Duke cannot spend the entire day indoors because he is damaging my furnishings. Please be considerate. That fence is really important.
“I’m sorry, but no,” I responded firmly. “I want to avoid taking any more chances.”
Feeling defeated, Kayla left.
She was still in the karma game, though. In the weeks that followed, she tried to work things out on her own. Duke tore like tissue paper through the flimsy bamboo fence she had constructed! Kayla’s increased time spent at home had a negative impact on her social life and work.
Her beloved puppy was slowly but surely tearing apart her ideal house.
She decided to get rid of some of her worn-out furniture by having an early Saturday morning yard sale. It was an extremely hot day, so she made the decision to tether Duke to the makeshift bamboo fence outside while she attended to potential buyers. Big mistake!
That crafty dog went mad and tore right through the barrier! When it swept through the neighborhood and knocked over a few garage sale displays, it startled the kids! During the pandemonium, Kayla’s purse—which contained her wallet and all of her important documents—was taken from the garage.
It was a nightmare for her! She needed to get new identity, cancel all of her credit cards, and deal with the ramifications from Duke’s neighborhood incident. When the neighbors heard about it, they all laughed, except for Kayla.
My neighbor finds it more and more difficult to live without a decent fence. She was never at ease in her unstable backyard and Duke was a pain. She tried everything to keep him at bay.
She attempted to strengthen the bamboo fence with a tie-out cable, but it was unsuccessful. Duke was simply too strong and determined to get away.
One evening as I was outside watering my garden, Kayla stopped over again. With her eyes burning, she begged, “Please, please, please.” I will pay for the entire cost of the fence this time. I can’t carry on living this way. Duke is driving me crazy, and I have no money left over to buy new furniture.
I sighed, feeling both sympathetic and annoyed at the same time. Although I understand your situation, Kayla, I can’t risk upsetting you and sparking a fresh argument. The trouble isn’t worth it.
She looked at me, simultaneously angry and desperate. You’re not aware of the sensation. I’m constantly concerned about what Duke is going to ruin next, even when I leave the house. My career is deteriorating, and my social life has ended. Please, there has to be something we can do to solve this.
I noticed how distraught she was, and I relented a little. “Look, rebuilding the fence isn’t an option, but I’ll help you come up with some other solutions.”
Kayla nodded, wiping away her tears. “I’m appreciative. Many thanks for it.
Over the next sixty minutes, we discussed a number of ideas. We talked about anything from hiring a dog trainer to getting a better temporary fence to help control Duke’s behavior. Even though Kayla seemed a little more upbeat, it was obvious that this wasn’t the result she was hoping for.
A few months later, Kayla’s situation was still getting worse. Duke’s damaging behavior persisted, and my neighbor was at her wits’ end. She was trying to make her problem mine, but all I could do was offer advice.
After exchanging emails like this for months, I gave up and ultimately spoke with a realtor. The next week, I had a “For Sale” sign posted in my yard. I had finally decided, after much deliberation, to give up and leave Kayla’s demanding job.
After several weeks, Kayla came back to knock on my door with a more composed appearance. Her monotone voice said, “I noticed you’re selling your home.”
Yes, this is pushing me over the edge. Your dog needs more space, and I need to take back my life.”
She expressed regret, but it didn’t seem like much regret—possibly because she was tired from trying to control Duke. “I hope you move to a better place that suits you both.”
“Thank you,” I replied, putting on a weak smile. “I’m sorry for putting you through so much trouble. My only intention was to act morally, but it didn’t turn out that way.
“Water beneath the bridge,” said the woman. “I hope everything goes well for you.”
Before leaving a month later, I informed Kayla’s new landlords of her situation at the house. They appeared to have everything going for them as a carefree young couple. They had no pets and were content with the way things were.
After I moved the old fence panels into my new house, I flourished there. I realized that Kayla had moved next door with the intention of forcing me out of the old area. I take my house dog outside every morning because it likes to play in the dirt.
The new neighborhood was quiet and comfortable, and there was no drama. Yes, I met someone, and I fell in love! Seeing those panels makes me smile because it represents Kayla’s revenge going full circle. When I tell others the anecdote, they always chuckle! It serves as a good reminder that sometimes karma is indeed wise!
