WEDDING DRAMA: MIL IS SPOTLIGHT AND WEARS WHITE, BUT AT HER WEDDING, I GOT THE LAST SMILE

When Tina became engaged, Jim’s mother tried to get involved in the planning for the wedding, which annoyed Jim and Tina. With enough time to plan her own revenge, Tina surprises the couple on their wedding day with a statement from Beth.

Soon after we were engaged, Jim’s mother Beth got involved. From the first day, she constantly shared her ideas with us.

Beth said, “I have so many ideas for your wedding, Tina.” “I’ve spent years organizing Jim’s wedding!”

“Mom, this isn’t just my wedding,” Jim said to his mother.

She waved him off and resumed her fervent discussion of floral arrangements.

That’s when I understood I would have to shut it off if I wanted to participate in my own wedding.

“Your mother will calm down, I assume?” I asked Jim that one day when we were out on a walk. “It won’t become physical here, will it? My recommendation for her to back off is not necessary.
Jim shook my hand and chuckled.

“My mother is a lot, love,” he continued. But she’s not a moron. She’ll comply with the cue.
But of course, Beth disregarded the advice.

She asked to meet at a coffee shop so that we could chat about the locations, the flowers, and even the cake.

She said, “Vanilla is the timeless option,” as she sipped her coffee. “Avoid peanut butter and chocolate, which is even worse. Don’t make naked cakes either. They are not adorable.

“Observe, Beth,” I muttered. “Thank you for your feedback, but Jim and I have discussed everything I have planned.”

Still, she needed my blessing, and she showed me a picture of the purple outfit she planned to wear.

I was unaware that this was just the start.

I was putting the finishing touches on my aisle walk makeup when Beth arrived on the day of our wedding, dressed in a floor-length white silk gown.

I had eyes I couldn’t believe.

“Beth? I asked, “What are you wearing?” surprised. “A white gown? Where is the purple one you showed me?

She turned to face me softly and used my dressing room mirror to touch up her lipstick.

“Tina, come on,” my sister cried from the doorway. “Now is the moment!”

Beth smiled and winked before walking out of the room in front of me.

I should have been overjoyed. The love of my life and I were going to get married, but Beth’s arrival had been the epitome of rudeness.

That was all we wanted, and everything went off without a hitch at the ceremony. Jim’s perfect vows and the musicians playing the soundtrack I spent hours creating didn’t make my heart feel well, though.

Beth’s betrayal had badly wounded me, and it was ruining my entire wedding experience.
I realize this is a lot for you, my hubby said.

But we still have the whole evening to celebrate and have a good time. I will speak with my mother about the ridiculous thing she did later. Come on, Tina, let’s just enjoy our day together.

I had to give it to Jim; he was trying to talk me out of it. I also understood that it was my responsibility to try to move past his mother’s behavior.

But Beth wasn’t done yet.

Taking the microphone at the reception, Beth revealed to the DJ that she and her longtime partner were getting engaged.

The cherry on top was when she approached me just prior to our first dance with Jim.
“You thought that you’d be the most important person here today, didn’t you?” she questioned with a cheeky smile.

We were laughing when Jim added, “I’m so sorry about my mom, honey.” “She just doesn’t know when to quit being herself.” She needs to practice utilizing the filters.
I lied and said, “It’s okay, Jim.” “Let’s concentrate only on our dance.”

I knew that everyone in the room was watching us, and the more Jim and I talked about it all, the more likely it was that I would snap in annoyance.

But within, I was enraged. I decided there and then that I was going to get my retribution.

A year later, it was Beth’s turn to wed George—the man who actually tried to make her seem more human.

I couldn’t wait to see how she would react to what I had planned. After our wedding, Jim had made it his special mission to make things right between Beth and me.

And I allowed it to. For throughout those months, I had not only rehearsed my fake friendship with her, but I had also meticulously planned my comeback.

“Are you ready for Mom’s wedding tomorrow?” asked my husband as I was finishing my hair the previous evening.

Yes, I replied. Since they didn’t have high expectations, everything should proceed according to plan.

That was my way of telling her that it would go according to my plan and not Beth’s.

The wave of guests at her wedding wearing white caused Beth’s forehead to wrinkle in confusion and wrath.

“Why is everyone wearing white?” she snapped, her eyes darting around the room before settling back on my white outfit.

“Oh, you didn’t read the invitation to your own wedding?” I replied nonchalantly. “We thought that for your special day, Beth, it would be a beautiful, cohesive look.”

My mother-in-law inhaled sharply.

She furrowed her brows and yelled, “You did this on purpose!”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I answered. “Beth, all I’m trying to do is make your day perfect.”

Throughout the ceremony, my mother-in-law was visibly furious and had difficulty staying composed.

It was time for us to give our remarks at the reception. Jim snatched up the microphone.

“Beth, you look amazing, and your wedding day is really lovely!” With a rising smile, I began. “Jim and I wanted to use this opportunity to let everyone know about some exciting news.”

My partner smiled and grasped my hand.

“We would like to announce a baby,” he exclaimed.

The crowd let forth a yell of congratulations. Beth’s expression was beet red, a mix of anger, disbelief, and realization that we had just made fun of her.

It was poetic justice.

Later, when people began to file out of the theater, a very irate Beth approached me.

“Did you have this planned? the declaration and the requirement to wear white?”

“Beth, all I wanted for your special day was for everyone to look put together. I understand that you want everything to line up perfectly. We were excited to tell the family about the baby news,” I said.

“You know exactly what you did,” she spat out.

“Like you knew exactly what you were doing at our nuptials?” I shot back, grinning sweetly but maintaining a serious look.

Naturally, Beth was at a loss for words when she heard that. When she rushed off, I thought I had the upper hand.

With loving family and friends by her side, the rest of the evening was a frenzy of celebration. Jim’s realization of how badly his mother had been acting led him to begin setting boundaries, which really simplified our lives.

Jim retorted, “My mother will know exactly where she stands when the baby is born.”

The following morning, Beth called while we were eating our pancakes. Jim and I glanced at each other, trying to figure out who would answer the phone and accept the invitation.

I was taken aback when my hubby put a forkful of food in his mouth. I expected Beth to give me a hard time when I picked up the phone, but I was pleasantly surprised by her instead.

“Congratulations on the baby,” she remarked. “Hopefully, we can continue from here.”
I smiled at Jim, who gave me a stuffed face nod.

“Thank you, Beth,” I said. “We also hope so.”

In the end, it wasn’t really about exacting revenge on Beth. It was about setting a norm so our lives wouldn’t be dictated by Beth’s whims. It was a win-win scenario, which made me happy.

Now, while we wait for our kid to arrive, we are hoping that Beth will stay in her lane.

In the scenario, how would you have handled things?
